A small change makes a big difference. Just try something on a small level and see how it makes you look special. Prints in fashion world are quite the game changer. Every season sees a new print come in or a bygone print return with a bang (and change). It is about time that one gets to know the latest prints in trend which are great for the season.

Add to the attire
Designer Miloni Shah feels that just like colour and garment styles, prints too are trends-driven. “Prints are becoming increasingly utilised tool in fashion designers’ kit. Depending on the season and year, some prints may be popular than others. There is something always eye-catching about prints whether it’s used on apparels or accessories. Prints generally help to express one’s mood and personality. Adding them to a simple fabric and cuts makes it stand out.”

Designer Renisha Kukreja of PASSH feels print placement have a major impact on making you look tall, thin, fat, short, broad or narrow. “Print also is a definition of one’s outlook. A person wearing vibrant prints tends to be more open and loud in outlook; whereas a person wearing earthy colored print tends to be subtler. Thus, print lets the world know who you are and perceptions about you. It plays a major role in adding that unique touch to any garment. It is that visual interpretation that makes the garment acceptable by masses.”

Designer Priyanshi Jariwala of The Khadi Cult informs, “If I talk about quirked up print, which is something I specifically work on, they add the element of youthfulness. They simply make attire more fun and interactive. And somewhere it also reflects your personality. It’s like a freedom of expression and the best part is you don’t need to express it out loud – Just adorn it.”

All prints classic
Any trend will have certain classics. Renisha feels checks, geometrics and watercolour strokes have always been in style. “Also block prints have been acceptable since a long time, as these prints are much generalized and do not tend to target group.”

Priyanshi finds polka dots, florals and stripes as classic prints. “You will always see more of them and you can hardly go wrong with these prints.” Miloni thinks of classics as timeless, classy and sassy but not trashy. “According to me, playful, quirky, floral, plaids and animal prints are kind of prints which will always be trendy.”

Get the latest
Of course, to be fashionable, one has to know the latest trends. Priyanshi reveals, “Considering my clothes are majorly about prints, I see the trend of big motifs picking up. People are warming up to graphic art in their wardrobe. The idea of styling it up simply makes it more fun for them, helping them stand out than the usual mundane styles. In terms of wearing prints for various occasions particularly formal and semi formal occasions, choose prints that are somewhere in-sync with the occasion you are attending.  There is no written rule that prints cannot be worn for formal occasions. Just make sure they are subtle and paired properly and this goes for women and men both.”

Miloni reveals tropical prints are back for the season. “The exotic vibrant summer colour, simplified florals and palm leaf patterns in punchy color combination brings a playful boldness to silky and flowy dresses for women, and shorts and shirts for men. They go well on a casual day to stunning evening gowns. Cuts like waves, waisted, ruffles, frills, statement sleeves, go best with this.”

Meet your match
Attire works to your advantage only if you also know the way to accessorize it. Miloni suggests, “One can use wide and skinny waist belts, tied or braided belts, vintage silver lockets, pearl lines in the neck, silver or gold ear studs, big hats and bangle bracelets with big color stone matching to the shades in the dress.”

Priyanshi feels breaking print with a solid contrasting color accessories is a good idea. “What helps is when the print colours and accessory colors complement one another. It is not a golden rule, but making sure that your bag and shoes if not the same colour but similar, helps bring a synergy in your look.” Renisha suggests, “The trend this season certifies the ‘more is more’ concept having us all forget minimalist touches and embrace anything that is big, bold and audacious.”

Check-point
While dealing with tricky trends like prints, it is advisable to go a little by the rule book to save your fashionable face. Priyanshi’s advice is simple. “Just don’t go overboard with your styling. Let the attire speak for itself. Keep it subtle and stylish.”

Miloni reveals. “Keep your clothes loose. Choose your fabric & cut wisely. Cotton, linen and chiffon floral patterns are fine for hot summers. Long sleeves and a less-than-risqué hemline help balance the effect of the breezy florals. Avoid flimsy fabrics if you don’t want your cloths to stick to your body. No use of silks, satins and velvet for this season. Avoid embellishments like beading or anything made of metal.” Renisha thinks loud prints need minimal accessories. “This season is of a massive look but not a season of over doing things. Checks & stripes are never combined together. Floral and stripes surely look good together. Try to not combine two vibrant prints together. Go for a subtle & loud combination instead.”
