No fresh agitation against NEET in the state: Tamil Nadu informed Supreme Court

On Monday, Tamil Nadu government told the Supreme Court that the state did not witness any fresh agitations against the NEET exam, after they were banned by the supreme court on September 8.

NEET was made compulsory by the center last year and since then Tamil Nadu has been demanding its exemption from the exam. On September 1, a 17 year old aspirant Anitha committed suicide after Supreme Court ruled out the exemption of Tamil Nadu from the exam and said that the admission will be based on the NEET merit list.

Since then, the state is witnessing massive protests by the students who are demanding the take the decision back.

The AG told the court that “there were no reports from the district authorities about any fresh anti-NEET agitation. As AG made his submission, the bench asked the Tamil Nadu government to file an affidavit to that affect”.

The next hearing on the matter will be held on October 8.
