Engineers should innovate for the Elder people, says V S Natarajan

Dr V S Natarajan, an eminent geriatrician, has urged the engineering students to take up projects and innovate new things which can help the elderly people in their day to day life.

“There is a lot of scope for development of projects for the elderly such as safety front door, walking sticks, auto-off of cooking gas, lights and alarms against falls,” he said.

Natrajan is the country’s first professor in Geriatric Medicine and was invited to deliver an inaugural address at a two-day workshop “Healthy Long Life for SeniorCitizens”.

Electronics and Communication Engineering department of Sri Sairam Engineering College organized the workshop.

On the occasion, a MoU was also signed between the college and Dr.V S Natarajan Geriatric Foundation which is aimed at developing the projects which can in improving the health and longevity of the elderly people.

MoU was signed by the CEO of Sairam group of institutions Sai Prakash Leo Muthu and Natrajan. Natrajan has four decades of experience in the field of giving care to the elderly people.

Muthu also highlighted the potential of the young engineers in developing the tools which can help the elderly people in their day to day life and pledged the support of the institution to the activities of the foundation for the betterment of the elderly community.
