Puducherry police save girl from ‘Blue Whale’

A 21-year-old girl, who was allegedly in the last stage while playing the deadly ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ was rescued following the immediate intervention of Puducherry police here.

According to Director General of police S.K. Gouram, a young girl from Ouppalam here downloaded the game on her smartphone. A message was received by the police from the woman’s friend in a whatsapp group— created by Sub-inspector Keerthi to establish contacts with the residents of the area – that the girl had not reached home since last night.

After enquiry, the police found the girl near Gandhi Thidal on the beach and she was later handed over to her parents. The parents had informed the police that the girl was not talking to anyone for the past one week and was staying inside her room the whole day. The police also recovered a paper from the girl in which it was written,  ‘ten cuts in three days’. She was also having injuries on her arm.

The girl was sent for counselling, said the DGP. He presented a commendation certificate and cash award  to the sub-inspector who saved the woman and also feted the constable who accompanied the SI. Puducherry CM V.

Narayananasamy on Saturday had said that the territorial administration would bring in legislation to ban the deadly game ‘Blue Whale Challenge’. Chief Minister’s response came a day after Blue Whale Challenge has allegedly claimed its first victim in the Union Territory.
