BHOPAL: “If a vacancy for the post of peon is advertised, lakhs of engineers submit application for the same. The condition is alarming and not good at all,” said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while speaking at the launch of ‘Rozgar ki Padhai – Chalo ITI’ campaign, here on Thursday.

The campaign was launched with the objective of fostering skill development among students in a grand programme, which was attended by Union minister of state for skill development Rajiv Pratap Rudy and minister of state for technical education, Deepak Joshi among others.

Addressing the programme, the CM insisted on closing engineering colleges and instead open ITI colleges. He also encouraged the college owners by saying there were around two lakh seats available in ITI colleges and government will be further increasing the number of ITI seats in the state

Chouhan said “Technical knowledge is better than bookish knowledge. These days students after completing their BA, MA, MBA, Law or other degrees do not know the profession they should choose, but a technically trained person like, fitter, plumber or motor mechanic do not have to worry for employment.”

The CM informed that Global Skill Development Centre in collaboration with Singapore will be set up in Bhopal and ten divisional ITIs of the state will be developed as ‘Model Institute’. He said that education qualification of ITI students passing class VIII will be recognised as educational qualification equivalent to Class X and the class X students will be recognised for academic qualification up to XII. To make women economically viable, ITE training will be done through skill training, the CM added.

The CM said that special cell has been set up for placement of ITI trained youths and is also open for apprenticeship, adding that officials of all the departments will coordinate in skill development and the officials performing well will be rewarded.

He also challenged the youth to come forward and make themselves worthy of employment to help change the economic scenario of the state. He also asked all the collectors and in-charge ministers to inspect ITI colleges on regular basis.

Union minister of state for skill development Rajiv Pratap Rudy in his address said that “Madhya Pradesh has started work in the areas of skill development and has gone far beyond other states in this direction. Madhya Pradesh has set up a separate ministry for the purpose and thus presented an ideal model for the entire country.”

The concept of ‘Skilled India’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being implemented with full potential and efficiency in Madhya Pradesh, he said, adding that India needs more skilled manpower, which has been neglected in the last six decades.

Minister of state for technical education, Deepak Joshi said that the Skilled India Mission and Make in India campaign of the Prime Minister are being given a concrete shape in Madhya Pradesh.

Principal secretary of technical education, Kalpana Srivastava said that in the next two years, 15 lakh youths will be given technical skill training. She informed that MP is the first state in the country to get the online examination of ITIs.

CM unhappy over low profile launch

BHOPAL: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is said to be irked by the way the programme for the state-wide launch of ‘Chalo ITI’ campaign was organised in the city on Thursday. Chouhan was expecting that the department will organise a mega function for the launch of the campaign but it was held at the auditorium of the RTI Bhavan. Only about 250 students were present at the function, which was addressed by Union minister Rajeev Pratap Rudy and the Chief Minister. That was the maximum the hall could accommodate. Chouhan expressed his displeasure after the programme ended.
