Indore: Free Press campaign against unauthorised use of hooters by many bureaucrats and ‘self-declared VIPs’ in city finally woke Regional Transport Officer MP Singh up from slumber.
Talking to Free Press on Thursday, Singh said that he will launch a drive against such vehicles which are using hooters atop their vehicles illegally with the help of traffic police.
“We have directed the officials and traffic police to act against such vehicles and to seize them. Use of hooters is prohibited under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules as well as under Madhya Pradesh Motor Vehicle Rule, except few emergency vehicles or the vehicles in which judges of Supreme Court or any high court is travelling,” he said.
Transport Commissioner Dr Shailendra Shrivastava also directed the RTO to take immediate action on rule breakers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken the initiative to end VIP culture in country but many people are unwilling to shed the extra advantageous practice.
Ramesh Gaba, a supermarket owner said, “Hooters are signal of emergency and if any other vehicle use it, then it will create confusion. People have stopped giving space to the ambulances as many other vehicles are using similar sirens.”
Avanish Jain, chief mentor of Good Luck Foundation, said that not only hooters but people have started using number plates to show their influence.
However, it is matter of time that how soon RTO takes action and people will get rid of the ‘self-declared VIPs.’
