Come summers and we’re off to vacays and getaways. Families look forward to summer vacations and plan in advance for their travelling destinations. However, most often than not, we tend to carry either a lot of stuff or unwanted clothes with us in the absence of knowledge on the weather and trends of the destination country. We need simple fashion suggestions to dress well for various destinations, ranging from beach to someplace cold and everything in between.

Unpack the misgivings
Of course, you are bound to make silly mistakes whilst planning your attire for holidays. Meha Bhargava, Image Consultant and founder of Styl.Inc, thinks people start making mistakes right from the process of packing. “Packing is a creative process; some packing mistakes could be travelling probably with a wrong bag to begin with, and then packing mindlessly, not packing enough double duty items, less underwears, not being prepared for varied weather, and always being prepared with extra clothes in your carry on for the baggage misplacement.” Designer Aditi Somani agrees with Meha on people over packing. “It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of packing too many options. However, if packed in a uniformed fashion, one can get more benefit, helping them to pack more efficiently. Therefore, sticking to what is more comfortable, versatile, what looks good and suits the occasion works best. Over packing not only leads to a heavier suitcase, but also puts the person in a confused situation due to the number of clothes.”

Colour coded
And chances are you might not know the things which one should always keep on a general note. Why not ask the experts regarding that? Aditi feels choosing lighter, stretchable and versatile outfits while packing can be a great way to look well on your vacation. “In terms of colours, stick to solid, neutrals and limited patterns in the same colour family. Basic clothing is always preferable to pack since they can be styled appropriately to enhance the fashion quotient. If packing for traditional wear for a destination wedding, one can wear light and flowy silhouettes in pastels. These shades look sophisticated and effortless and let the outfits speak for itself.”
Meha reveals, “It is connected to any destination. Light weight clothing that can be layered, versatile black/blue trousers or jeans, couple of tops, a jacket to add the formal flare for the evening, casual/evening dresses, lingerie, swim trunks, a light weight sweater/jacket/windcheater, walk shoes, and cute pair of slippers/slip-ons, sunglasses and your personal hygiene bag!”

Go with the flow

Travelling without knowing the trends is just not done. You want to look your best at any place you visit. The experts have some points here too. Meha suggests, “I always believe in clusters i.e. 10-15 pieces of clothes that can be paired with each other and don’t follow particular trends while travelling, but definitely keep in mind my destination. Latest trends thus are my basics that I travel with i.e. black pants, a leather jacket maybe (for winter months), comfortable pair of sneakers or hiking shoes for the hills, but I definitely work around with my tops – plains, printed and play with fabrics like Georgette, cotton etc, easy to pack and they don’t wrinkle!”
Ladies can go with some amazing floral print dresses. Choose ones which can suit particular time of the day or occasion. Shirt dresses too are perfect. For summers, wear one of lighter fabric and pair it off with a great flats and sunglasses. For chillier places, you can go with tights beneath, scarf and sweater. Bright stripes are a great way to brighten up your already happy travel mood. Just pair them with black accessories and you are set to look around. You can also choose to go yellow as it is another great way to add colour to your travel. If you are hitting the beach, choose crocheted bikinis

Don’t forget the add-ons
Looking good comes also with matching the right accessories with your attire. It adds a dash of sheen to your clothing. Aditi believes in limiting the accessories. “It is better to avoid loud and chunky pieces. If traveling for a specific formal occasion, one could pack a statement piece, along with light and elegant jewellery.” Meha too believes that less is more if you are in the travel mode. “Never do I wear real jewellery. Hence I opt for long chains, pendants, cute earrings – small studs or danglers for the evening, and a sunhat, sunglasses and a baseball cap for the summers travels. Definitely pack a travel bag.” Something like statement jewellery (think a nice big neckpiece or ring), graphic bags can do the trick.

Smart and chic
You have every reason to rush in to travel now that you are aware of the latest things to wear for travel anywhere. Meha advises, “Travel light, and pack less but optimum. Always follow the cluster rule and make combinations with everything. Shop at your destination where the locals would and you are sure to find some hidden gems!” Aditi suggests, “Always pack smartly. Plan your outfits in advance to avoid last minute confusions and delays. Everything should fit well and be comfortable, as vacations tend to get tiring sometimes.”
