Bhopal: The Ransomware attack all over the world has posed a serious threat to large and crucial data of internet users all over the world. The Ransomeware is a type of malicious software which encrypts the data and blocks it from holder to use the data. The attack which took place on May 12 has infected more than 230,000 computers in over 150 countries. In India, the attack has been found extensively in Andhra Pradesh where gram panchayats have also been targeted. Till now 30,000 dollars have been taken by the attackers as ransom payment in the form of crypto currency Bitcoin from the various victims.
How it works?
The WannaCry Ransomware software attack uses phishing emails which can have links, documents, videos, images, voice notes or any other document or attachment. Once the user opens the document, the Ransomware software is automatically downloaded in the system which then encrypts all the data in the system and blocks the user from using the data and accessing it. It then demands certain amount as ransom from the user and displays a message requesting to payment to unlock it. The attackers are asking for $300 which is costing around Rs 1,12,288.77. The software also gives time limit for payment after which the amount doubles and after crossing the time limit, the data will be lost completely.
