The political storm raging over ‘Padmavati’ film cast a shadow over the crucial meeting of party MLAs called by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at his official residence on Friday to discuss Bhavantar scheme and winter session of the assembly. More than 50 MLAs of the ruling party sought a ban on the film in the state. Sources in the saffron party said that the state government is likely to take a decision in this regard on Saturday.
As the meeting began in the presence of chief minister Chouhan and BJP state president Nandkumar Singh, BJP legislator from Sumavali (Morena) Satyapal Singh Sikarwar raised the issue of the controversial film and demanded to ban the movie in the state. BJP media in-charge Lokendra Parashar confirmed that ‘Padmavati’ movie was discussed in the meeting.
“The song and outfits shown in the film with actor Deepika Padukone in the lead role of Rani Padmavati are controversial. They hurt the sentiments of the people. The film should not be released in the state”, Satyapal is learnt to have said in the meeting. He was soon joined by Divyaraj Singh from Sirmaur (Rewa), Usha Thakur from Indore-3 and 50 other MLAs who apprehended that the release of the movie could disturb peace in the state. Divyaraj Singh said that people would never allow misinterpretation of history. Usha Thakur said that the film should be released only after special screening and approval by the government.
BJP state president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan also supported the MLAs’ demand and said that he also wanted that the film should be screened for leaders before its official release.
