Man held for raping, killing 12-yr-old in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas

Police on Tuesday arrested a man for raping and killing a 12-year-old girl in an agriculture fields in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh, two days ago.

The accused, Lokesh Barwal, 28, a resident of Sundrel village, is a chronic alcoholic and drug addict, Dewas superintendent of police Anshuman Singh told reporters.

Body of the girl with her legs tied and mouth stuffed with cloth was found in an agriculture field of Bonder Gudwal on November 6, in Sundrel village under Kantaphod police station area, sending the villagers into a state of shock.

The girl was missing since November 3. She had returned from school and left for the farm fields with tea for her father. The victim’s father was working in the fields and found her daughter missing only when he returned home in the night.

Singh said the police rounded up nearly a dozen men in the case and arrived at a conclusion that Lokesh, who led a suspicious life, was found in the locality on the day of the crime.

He was taken into custody and interrogated. After sustained questioning, Lokesh broke down and confessed the crime, the SP said.

On the fateful day, Lokesh had consumed alcohol in the morning and was moving around the village when he noticed the girl moving towards the field. He struck a dialogue with her and came to know that she would be moving through an isolated stretch to reach her father.

Lokesh took a shorter route and hid in a field of pulses. Soon after the girl arrived, he pulled her into the field, Singh said adding he tore her clothes and stuffed her mouth with her stole. He used the girl’s salwar to tie her legs.

The accused raped her and fled the crime scene, while the girl suffocated to death, the SP said.

After committing the crime, the accused was loitering around the scene and taking stock of police investigations.

Police have arrested Lokesh for murder and rape. He will be soon produced before a court.
Police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on the head of the accused. They had also promised the agitating villagers that the accused will be caught in 48 hours of the crime.
