Former Madhya Pradesh left arm spinner Sachin Katare (30), who was representing South eastern central railway (SECR), was found dead on Monday under mysterious circumstances at his quarters behind reservation office.

His body was found lying on the bed, but no injuries were spotted. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Police said Sachin, a class IV employee in SECR, had left his wife, four-year-old son and father at his hometown in Madhya Pradesh a couple of days ago. There was a domestic feud going at home front with Sachin and his wife at loggerheads.

Sachin’s wife had met with an accident a couple of days ago. There was no one to take care of Sachin’s wife which had triggered the quarrel between the couple.

Sachin, who played at the U-22 level for MP and was a regular in local Gazdar league, was not responding to calls for a day. He was adjudged best bowler in ‘C’ division last season. In 2015-16, he was adjudged best bowler in ‘A’ division institution playing for SECR. Sachin had shifted to city five years ago.

Police said his neighbour was the first to spot the body. There was no response from inside despite repeated knocks on the door. One of the neighbours managed to reach his quarters with a ladder from the adjoining premises before landing in the courtyard.

He later alerted the control room before Imambada police reached the place.

Police said the body was in the bedroom. A sealed packet of rat poison was kept in the kitchen. The body was sent for post mortem at GMCH. Imambada police have registered a case of accidental death.
