Hours after AIADMK leader Sasikala Natarajan applied for 15 day emergency parole, central prison officials turned down the request on technical grounds.
A prison official said, “Sasikala, through advocate A Asokan, applied for parole and attached a medical certificate of her husband M Natarajan issued by a private hospital in Chennai. The submission should be made directly by Sasikala and the medical certificate from a private hospital should be attested by a government official,” he said.
The prison superintendent was not reachable for comment. Prison superintendent M Somashekhar, who earlier in the day said parole proceedings were in progress, was not available for comment in the evening.
In an eight-page submission made in English, Sasikala said: “My husband Natarajan is ailing from liver-related ailment and has been hospitalized in Chennai for some time.Like a good wife, it is my moral duty to serve and attend to him at this stage. So I pray prison officials to grant me an emergency parole of 15 days.”
What next?
Sasikala should make a fresh submission which Karnataka police will verify with the help from their Tamil Nadu counterparts. It may take a few days.
