Kangana Ranaut is back on the silver screen with Hansal Mehta’s Simran. The film, which has been in news more for its controversy, finally hit the screens on Friday. But unlike Kangana’s last few releases, Simran hasn’t been able to mint a lot of moolah at the box office. Mehta’s directorial venture collected only Rs 6.53 crore within first two days of its release.
And Sunday saw a slight increase in the collection. If early reports are to be believed, Simran collected Rs 4 crore (approx) on its third day, thus taking the opening weekend collection to Rs 10.53 crore (approx).
However, going by her last few films, Simran still has to go on a long way in terms of box office collection.
Simran is based on the real-life story of ‘Bombshell Bandit’ Sandeep Kaur. The film sees Kangana stepping into the shoes of Kaur, but her character in the film belongs to Gujarat, as opposed to Sandeep, who hailed from Chandigarh.
Kangana’s character Praful Patel makes her way around Atlanta in the US by doing a job in the housekeeping department of a five-star hotel.
Despite a not-so-strong storyline, Kangana has got a thumbs up from critics for her stellar performance. However, Monday would be the real litmus test for the film.
