Few weeks ago, in order to protect the interest of the children and their parents Delhi government issued a show cause notice to 449 schools in Delhi and gave them two weeks to refund the extra fees they have charged. As a result of this many schools issued public notices in the newspapers in which they asked the parents to come and take the refund.
“These schools have been sent notices in the past, yet they are not complying. We have two options as per rules. Either take over the school or de-recognize them. The second option will leave hundreds of students without a school so the government has decided to take them over,” said

Atishi Marlena, adviser to education minister Manish Sisodia in a recent HT report.

Some of the city’s top private schools were also included in the 449 schools. As of now 150 schools have refunded INR 300 crore to the parents, Marlena said.
According to the report published in Outlook, many other schools such as Sardar Patel Vidhyalaya in Lodhi Estate, Oxford Public School in Nehru Nagar, Heera Public School in Gurgaon and Smt Misri Devi Gyan Niketan School in Deenpur have also issued public notices and have asked the parents to collect the refund latest by September 5.

Around 70 other schools have submitted the excess fee in the Delhi High Court.

According to the reports from TOI, few big schools such as DPS Mathura Road and Springdales Pusa Road approached the court separately in a matter related to fee refund and are waiting for the decision before they make the payments.

“There is a PIL that we have filed in court and are waiting for a decision. We have the amount ready with us. The hearing is next month, and action will be taken on the direction of the court,” said Principal Manohar Lal in a recent TOI report.

“Some of them are doing good work. But if they don’t implement the recommendations of the panel’s report then we will take them over as a last resort,” said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Kejriwal.
