Tata Institute of Social Sciences or commonly referred to as TISS has emerged out to be greatly sought college for students pursuing courses in Human Resources and Social Welfare. Due to its revered reputation and highly celebrated courses the number of applications for the institute goes up to thousands every year; reason being why the institute conducts its own National Entrance test, very commonly known as the TISSNET. This year TISSNET was held on January 9th Saturday, 2016 for the academic year 2016-2018 from 2:00 pm to 3:40 pm. TISSNET is mainly taken by students who want to pursue its prominent course of M.A in Human Resource Management & Labour Relations, one which is the prime interest of management aspirants. Apart from this course, TISS offers a wide range of Master’s degree programs in various disciplines.

The selection procedure for the TISS National Entrance Test is divided into three steps as follows:

  • National Entrance Test (Computer Based Test)
  • Written test (Descriptive type)
  • Personal Interview for the final assessment

In comparison with other MBA entrance exams conducted in the country, TISSNET is slightly different in pattern, style and assessment criteria. The paper not only assesses the concept driven knowledge based preparation of the candidates in addition but also tests their other side which is more practice driven and environment sensitive.

For the knowledge part, it is greatly important to have a good command over English Language and Mathematics, for the paper largely evaluates the candidate’s aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Moving on to the environment sensitive part, candidates need to brush up their general knowledge, current affairs and other areas of awareness. The general awareness section dares the test takers on the basis of its vastness; just about every little event in the environment news seems to qualify for being asked from a test perspective. Though for acquiring a more convergent approach, candidates should keep themselves duly updated from time to time.

Candidates should keep in mind not to try to cram a lot of difficult formulas. It consumes a lot of time and energy. The difficulty level of TISSNET is not extremely gritty so you can relax a little bit and focus more on your problem-solving skills rather than mugging up heaps.

General Awareness questions can pop up from literally anywhere; Current Events, Significant Political Events or Political Information, History, Geography plus General Geology, Social Awareness, Economic News, Literature, World famous Personalities, Fine Arts & Music, Films across the World that have been subjects of debates, including actors who have made a significant contribution to the field of performing arts.

Mock Tests: A greatly vital part of any preparation, mock tests let you analyse your strengths and weaknesses. The level of your preparation can be evaluated only through the mock tests. It is advisable to give a number of mock tests, if possible make yourself seated in actual test like environment. Mock tests are a great way of checking the areas where you’re still lagging behind in your TISSNET preparation. Developing a test taking approach will help you brush up your necessary test taking skills like time management, prioritization and attaining the right balance between accurateness and speed.
