Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday ordered sweeping changes in public security systems to ensure safety of girls following the Bhopal gang rape, including a review of crimes against women, statewide, every Monday.
The CM also ordered action against a doctor who wrote ‘sexual intercourse with consent’ in the medical report of the gang-rape survivor. The report had been junked immediately by police and a correct one made.
Chouhan stressed on the need to be sensitive to women who survived sexual crimes and are seeking redress.
Alarmed by the spate of crimes against women, the government has made CCTVs mandatory at all public places and on public transport. The CM has asked officials, led by chief secretary B P Singh and DGP R K Shukla, to frame a plan for women safety — one that ensures safe transportation, and safe environment to study and work.
It includes intense patrolling in sensitive areas by ‘Dial 100’ vehicles, quick reaction teams, GPS-enabled public transport and more importantly a massive awareness drive.
Children should be educated about ‘good touch and bad touch’, the CM said. He also ordered police to gather information about liquor shops near girls’ colleges, hostels, religious places and sensitive areas.
