Income tax officials continued searches at Jaya TV office and on several premises belonging to jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala’s family members and her supporters for the second day on Friday.
On Thursday morning, I-T officials began simultaneous searches on 187 premises in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Puducherry. The officials had completed searches in 47 places, mainly in Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts, by Friday morning.
Documents and papers had been seized from most of these premises, said a senior I-T official.
The searches were going on in the other 140 places on Thursday. “We are not able to say at what time the searches will be completed. We have either seized documents from these remaining places or have readied them (documents) for seizure,” the official said.
“Once we see a document, either of a property or an investments, we will ask the person present in the place to explain the details about it. Only after getting full details about the document, we will be able to go further,” he said.
More than 100 places were being searched in Chennai alone. They include Jaya TV office, Jazz Cinemas, the residence of Sasikala’s nephew and Jaya TV MD Vivek Jayaraman and that of his sister Krishna Priya.
In many places where searches were going on, the officials were relieved by a fresh batch of officials. However, in some other places, the same officials had been continuing searches for over 24 hours.
