The Saudi Arabia government on Tuesday rejected reports claiming the death of Prince Abdulaziz bin Fahd. “There is no truth whatsoever to rumours circulating in media concerning Prince Abdulaziz bin Fahd,” an information ministry spokesman said in a statement. “Prince Abdulaziz is alive and well,” it added.
The statement from the government came hours after news reports claiming the death of 44-year old Saudi prince started doing the rounds. Arabic news sources, such as Althad News, had earlier reported a news release from the Saudi Royal Court stating that the Saudi royal family was mourning the death of the prince. Reports had further claimed that Prince Abdulaziz, son of late king Fahd, was killed in custody or while resisting arrest amid the on-going crackdown against corruption in the country.
The rumours of Prince Abdulaziz’s death came a day after the death of Prince Mansour bin Moqren, the deputy governor of Asir Province nad son of a former Crown Prince, in a mysterious helicopter crash near the Saudi border with Yemen.
The kingdom, over the weekend, ago saw a sweeping anti-corruption purge, with dozens of high-profile individuals including princes, ministers and billionaires tycoon Al-Waleed bin Talal, were arrested after an-anti graft commission headed by Crowned Prince Mohammed bin Salman was established.
