Students of Benazir College have moved the Madhya Pradesh high court(MPHC) against shifting of the campus to a new location in Kolar area. Students also organised a protest on the campus against the move on Friday.

The students’ council of the Benazir College has launched a campaign against shifting of the campus. Notably, NSUI won all the seats in Benazir College in the recently-concluded students’ union elections. NSUI’s Bhopal district vice-president Prashant Singh said that shifting of the college to Kolar was politically motivated. “There is no logic in shifting the campus to Kolar. It will have a direct impact on students,” said Singh.

Justifying his stand, Singh said that majority of the college students belonged to the old city and cannot afford the extra burden of conveyance.

“Before coming to the present campus, the college was running in the old city. It was the only boys’ college in the old city. If the campus is shifted to Kolar, then it will create problems for students,” said Singh.

“The newly-constructed building in Kolar was meant for a new college, which was announced four years’ ago. One campus has been constructed in Narela area and the other should have been the Kolar. Instead of opening a new college, the higher education department is shifting the campus there, which we will not allow,” said Singh.

Students have also launched a signature campaign against the decision. “Instead of shifting the campus, the department should have focused on improving the quality of education. The present campus is sufficient and convenient for students from the old city,” said students’ council president Devyani Mishra.

Sources said that the Hindi University showed a keen interest in shifting their campus to the Kolar campus. For past one year, the Hindi University has been running from the Minto Hall. As Minto Hall is getting renovated, the university is searching for a new location.
