In a major setback for chief Congress spokesperson KK Mishra, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to transfer the defamation case filed against him by the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from the court of first Additional District Judge, Bhopal.

The Jabalpur High Court had earlier rejected KK Mishra’s transfer plea.

MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has filed a defamation case against Mishra for levelling charges against him in the transport constable recruitment scam which was part of the Vyapam scam.

Mishra in a press conference in Bhopal had alleged that most of those recruited as transport constables by VYAPAM (Professional education Board) were from Gondia district in Maharashtra from where the chief minister’s wife came.

KK Mishra, however, could not provide any supportive document or evidence to prove his charge.

Mishra refused to accept the Supreme Court refusal to transfer his case as a setback and said, “Though, the Supreme Court has refused to transfer the case it would now be keeping a watch on the case.”

Mishra in his petition to the court had alleged that first ADJ Bhopal was favourably disposed towards the chief minister on grounds that the latter had tea and snacks in the judges’ chamber when he had come to court to record his statement.

Mishra also claimed that the government and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were unnecessarily harping on the transport constable recruitment scam while the fact remained that he had convened the press conference on the VYAPAM scam in totality.

“No one can deny that the VYAPAM scam happened in MP. So, many people lost their lives and also the CBI is investigating the case. A minister and many top officials went to jail. The government of which Shivraj Singh Chouhan is the head was definitely complicit,” he said.
