A 21-year-old Muslim man who was found in a hotel room with a Hindu woman in Rajasthan’s Barmer on Thursday, was brutally assaulted by her relatives.
The man has been sent to a Jodhpur hospital.
A video, purportedly of the assault, showing a mob of over 100 people outside the hotel was circulated on social media.
Some men in the video are heard chanting “Jai Shri Ram.”
The victim has been identified as Padu Khan of Sayala village of Jalore, a district neighbouring Barmer. The police said by the time they reached the hotel in Barmer’s Balotara, the mob had dispersed.
“We found the man writhing in pain and his clothes torn. We sent him to the Jodhpur government hospital after first aid at Balotara,” said Barmer additional superintendent of police Kailash Dan Ratnu.
Ratnu said the victim was conscious but refused to lodge a complaint. The police have not received a complaint from anyone over the assault.
“The hotel management also did not lodge any complaint about the incident,” the officer added.
The police are clueless about the identity of the woman. Locals said that her relatives whisked her away before assaulting the man.
