At the beginning of the Twentieth century Mahatma Gandhi declared that “the soul of India lives in its villages” and insisted on engaging the attention to the hand spinning industry in order to re-establish the village home.

Keeping these words of Mahatma Gandhi in mind, IIM Rohtak has joined the initiative to promote the Khadi ahead of Mahatma’s 148th birth anniversary.

On September 28, the institute also invited the Khadi Ashram secretary and his team to showcase the Khadi and related items in order to encourage the students to adopt the fabric.

Director IIM Rohtak, Professor Dheeraj Sharma said, “For our nation to become a true superpower, we must have a strong identity. Khadi is a very important ingredient of our national identity. Hence, for us to do well economically and intellectually, in our efforts to become a superpower, we must nurture our identity by supporting our Khadi Udyog.”

Gramodyog, or village industries produce grew by 24% in the fiscal year 2016-17 and the sales increased by 33 percent.

In order to promote the Gramodyog, the government has done its bit and with IIM Rohtak joining the bid, Khadi’s popularity is sure to grow even further.
