The relatives of a teenaged boy misbehaved with a junior lady doctor at Hamidia Hospital on Tuesday as they were dissatisfied with her treatment. Shiva, 19, had a deep cut in head. He had come to Hamidia Hospital on Monday night. He was given treatment. In morning, his relatives had an argument with Dr Dipti Dhodi who was on duty.

According to sources, petty issue snowballed into major controversy and relatives misbehaved with her. This is the second incident in last 10 days wherein the relatives of patients have misbehaved with the doctors on duty. On September 14, orthopedic surgeon Dr Sujit Mishra was beaten after he had postponed hand surgery of eight-year old Simaran.

For long, Junior Doctors’ Association has been demanding deployment of police at the hospital. Koh-e-Fiza police staiton house officer Anil Vajpayee said, “We have only information about confrontation and misbehavior. No one has approached to file written complaint. Police cannot take action until complaint is filed.”

When contacted, JUDA president Nishant Shrivastava said doctors have been demanding adequate police security but the government has not paid heed. He said doctors had also raised this matter before Gandhi Medical College Dean Dr MC Sonagra at a recent meeting.

“Despite assurance from government, junior doctors are not safe. Almost daily, we face ire of relatives. It is highly lethargic attitude of the government regarding fulfillment of demands,” Shrivastava said.
