After spending time with actor Kamal Haasan at his Alwarpet residence on Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seemed to have found an ally in his fight against corruption and communalism.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the actor said it was a learning curve for him to spend time with Mr. Kejriwal. He added that they decided to have a dialogue on the situation in the country with regard to corruption and communalism — issues that unite the two.
“He has a great national profile in fighting corruption and communalism, and I also have a little reputation similar to that. It is educational for me to speak and ask anybody who is fighting against corruption to give me advice to go about my endeavor,” the actor said.
Mr. Kejriwal met the actor at his residence in Eldams road on Thursday afternoon and was earlier received at the airport here by his daughter Akshara Haasan. Their meeting lasted for about an hour and they were joined by Ashutosh, spokesperson of the Aam Aadmi Party and Somnath Bharati. Following this, they spoke to the media.
Stating that Kamal is among the rare breed of people who have decided to stick their neck out against corruption, Mr. Kejriwal said that the actor had decided to enter politics rather than merely cursing from outside.
“It is important when the country is facing strong forces of corruption and communalism that like-minded people talk to each other and work in tandem with each other. We had a good meeting; we exchanged ideas and spoke about the situation in Tamil Nadu and the country,” Mr. Kejriwal said, and added that they would continue to meet in the future.
Speculation has been rife for a while now about Mr Kamal Haasan’s tryst with politics and he had recently declared at The Hindu Tamil event that he ‘had already arrived in politics.’ It might be remembered that he had earlier met the Kerala Chief Minister Pinnarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram.
