The date for the final round of counseling for NEET 2017 exam for the session 2017-18 has been extended by the Supreme Court till September 7 and the court also made clarification that no further extension will be granted.

The mop-up round is the last step in the NEET counseling process and all the students who registered for the counseling but were not allotted any colleges in first two rounds are considered in this round.

Initially, the last date for the mop-up round was August 31.
“Time for mop up round counseling is extended till September 7, 2017. This extension shall only be applicable to the deemed universities and none else. Any application by any other college or institution seeking extension shall not be entertained,” the bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said.

The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) informed the court that there are still 5,500 seats vacant in the deemed universities. The court ordered to fill these seats from the qualified pool of 55,000 students to maintain the ratio of 1:10.

“As long as, for the seats which have fallen vacant, the ratio is maintained at 1:10, we do not perceive any difficulty. If 1;10 ratio is not sufficient, the Director General of Health Services is granted liberty to get into the larger NEET list. We order accordingly,” the bench said.
NEET is a single window exam for the aspirants who wish pursue their higher education in MBBS and BDS across India.
