As Mumbai braces for second day of trouble there is some relief expected with the weather department predicting light to moderate rainfall in the maximum city today.
Heavy rains on Tuesday crippled the country’s financial capital. Mumbai received 300mm rainfall flooding roads, railway tracks. Air traffic was also badly hit. Tuesday’s rains were the heaviest the city witnessed since 26 July, 2005 when Mumbai received 94 cm of rain in a single day. At least 500 people were killed then.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people of Mumbai and surrounding areas to stay safe and take all essential precautions in the wake of heavy rains. He also assured all help to the government of Maharashtra.
