HYDERABAD: Standing atop the dais from where his grandmother spoke 40 years ago, AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi gave a call to the Congress party to start a new movement to take Telangana in the right direction.

“This is not the Telangana that people wished for and definitely not the one that is working for the welfare of family of four only leaving others out,” Mr Gandhi said.

He was speaking at the Telangana Praja Garjana, organised at Sangareddy during his second tour in three years after Telangana was formed. Showing the 160-odd senior party leaders on the dais, he told the gathering that Congress rules collectively and not as a family. He asked the TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy to show this strength to people in each and every village.

A visibly elated Rahul Gandhi recalling Telangana freedom fighter Maqdoom Mohiuddin’s famous lines — Hayat leke chalo, kainat leke chalo; Chalo to zamanay ko saath leke chalo — asked the people whether Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was taking everyone along with him. Mr Gandhi attacked Mr. Rao saying he was only taking along contractors and land mafia.

Further targeting KCR, he said what kind of Bangaru Telangana was this where 2,855 farmers committed suicide including 100 in CM’s Gajwel constituency. “We waived Rs. 70,000 crore at one go and that’s how loans should be paid.” Striking a chord with people, he said KCR was busy diluting all Congress schemes. He reminded that Sonia Gandhi gave Telangana, realising the pain of the people and their dreams despite opposition and political losses. If those dreams of Telangana people are not coming true, Congress would come back to realise those dreams. Mr. Uttam Kumar listed out failures of the TRS government. Mr Gandhi later released a “People’s Chargesheet.”
