BHOPAL: Eight cities of Madhya Pradesh figure in the top 25 cities and towns in the country in the ‘Swachchta Sarvekshan -2017’conducted in 500 cities across India. These cities include Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, Khargone, Sagar, Rewa and Pithampur. Chairpersons of municipalities and mayors of municipal corporations of these cities will be honoured at New Delhi on May 4.
Minister for Urban Development Maya Singh said sanitation survey was conducted between January and March this year in 500 cities with a population of one lakh or more. Total 34 cities of MP were included in the survey. Due to collective efforts eight cities have figured in top 25 cities’ list and will be honoured in different categories.
Singh said 136 towns and cities of MP had been declared open defecation free till now. Remaining 209 cities would be declared ODF in next two months. A budgetary provision of Rs 600 crore had been made in 2017-18 budget for activities to be undertaken under Swachh Bharat Mission. PPP-based Integrated Solid Waste Management Scheme was being implemented in all the urban bodies of the state, Singh added.
