Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said Monday the BJP’s victory in the Gujarat polls was a foregone conclusion.

“People of Gujarat have no reason to desert the PM and vote for others,” said Nitish, without commenting the questions on BJP not being able to win the Chitrakoot bypoll.

Nitish voiced his support for quota for Jats and Marathas. “Why should we discuss quota for Patidars, why not Jats and Marathas. I support reservation for all three. As for reservation for women, I stick to my old stand on giving substantial reservation to women,” Nitish told reporters at a public interaction programme, Jan Samvad.

The Bihar CM said there should be debate on reservation in Parliament and outside. His government last year implemented 35% reservation for women in state government jobs.

The state government has given 50% reservation to women in panchayats and urban local bodies since the 2006 panchayat polls.
