Union minister Uma Bharti on Tuesday said that several roads in Madhya Pradesh were “much better than those in US,” a view that echoes the opinion of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, ANI has reported.
“Shivraj ji was right. Many roads in Madhya Pradesh are much better than those in the USA,” ANI quoted Bharti as saying.
Bharti, a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, was agreeing with incumbent chief minister Chouhan, who had a week ago claimed that the roads in his state were “better than those in the US”.
“When I got down at Washington Airport and travelled on the roads, I felt that the roads in Madhya Pradesh are better than those in the US,” Chouhan had said at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum meeting in Washington.
The chief minister had become the target of several jokes because of his remarks.
Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia had asked him to “open your eyes and face reality.”
Chouhan defended his remarks, saying that at the time he made the statement, his mind was on the Indore super corridor.
“When you land at Indore airport and proceed to the city, the road that you take is excellent”, he said. “I went to US for branding of Madhya Pradesh and when I landed at Washington DC, I remembered Madhya Pradesh roads. I had in my mind the super corridor of Indore.”
