Durgesh Kushwaha may have made all caring husbands proud. The grocery salesman in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh will be felicitated by the state government for giving a special gift to his wife on Karwa Chauth.
Durgesh Kushwaha of Khatora village under Badarwas block in Shivpuri is the only man who responded to the unique offer of local administration. The Shivpuri district administration has announced that any husband who gifts his wife a toilet on Karwa Chauth will be felicitated in a public programme.
Kushwaha not only promised to gift his wife a toilet, but has even started construction of the toilet on Sunday, itself.
A total of 2.15 toilets were to be constructed in Shivpuri district, but despite all efforts, 80,000 toilets are yet to be constructed.
“We are working on all levels and in the past five months a total of 42000 toilets have been constructed in our district. But still we are lagging behind by 80000 toilets. So we announced for felicitating those husbands who will gift a toilet to their wives on the festival of Karwa Chauth,” district panchayat CEO Nitu Mathur said.
She added, “So far we have received information of only one person, named Durgesh Kushwaha who has promised to gift his wife a toilet and also started its construction.
However, we are hopeful of getting report of few more people, by Monday morning, because as it is Sunday and a festival day. Most of the people are in festive mood though I am happy that even if one person has responded to our call and has gifted his wife a toilet”.
“We have also decided to organise monthly Swatchhta Sammellans wherein we would felicitate all those people who will take unique initiatives for construction of toilets,” Mathur said.
