As it readies for the next round of electoral battle, including the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will review its performance and the impact of its policies to chart out the way forward at the ongoing national executive on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address his colleagues as the party sets out to focus on economic slowdown and jobs cuts — national problems the BJP had promised to contain.
The party is also expected to take up the issues of the impact of Goods and Services Tax (GST), demonetisation and other economic policies of the government in its economic resolution that will be passed at the end of the meet.
While the government pitched demonetisation as an answers to multiple problems of black money stashing, funding of terror outfits and counterfeit currency rackets, the Opposition has dubbed it a needless exercise, and one aimed at helping the BJP reap electoral benefits.
Sources said these big-ticket policy decisions will be highlighted as steps in the government’s attempts to weed out corruption.
The BJP brass is also expected to read out among the party’s many achievements the flushing out of terrorists in Kashmir, rolling out of pro-poor schemes and the diplomatic feats of standing up to China’s bullying tactics and calling out Pakistan at international forums for its continued support to terror organisations.
Threats to internal security, especially in the wake of concerns over the influx of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar; and the attacks on BJP-RSS cadre in states where the electoral battle with the Opposition has aggravated into violent conflict such as in Kerala and West Bengal are also expected to come up at the meet being attended by nearly 2,000 delegates.
BJP president Amit Shah who reviewed party’s attempts to consolidate its position on Sunday, will address party MLAs, MPs and other office bearers at the Talkatora Stadium later in New Delhi.
With the meeting coinciding with conclusion of the birth centenary celebrations of its ideologue, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, the party is expected to sharpen its focus on social welfare as propounded by him.
As it sets about to add more states to its kitty, especially those where the BJP has traditionally found little support, the party will set in motion its processes to expand its footprint.
