Two people were killed and four injured and one person has been arrested in a shooting at the Clovis-Carver Public Library on Monday afternoon, according to Clovis City Manager Tom Phelps.
Phelps said the shooter was taken into custody “without incident.”
He said three of the victims were taken to Lubbock, but he did not know the extent of their injuries.
He declined to name those killed out of concern some of their family members may not have been notified.
A press conference has been scheduled for 8 tonight at Clovis City Hall.
The shooting happened a little after 4 p.m. on Monday.
Police surrounded the building for more than an hour. Multiple ambulances were called to the scene, including air ambulances.
Vanessa Aguirre said she was in the library with her son when a man came in and “started to shoot” into the air.
“It all happened so fast,” she said. “We took off fast. My purse is still in there.”
Aguirre said she did not see anyone shot, but the shooter was still in the library when she left. She said she thinks he had a handgun.
Kim Tipton, who was in the American Classified building across the street from the library, said she saw multiple police arrive a few minutes after 4.
“Their guns were drawn, AK-whatever they were, they were drawn,” she said.
