New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Shashi Tharoor today lashed out at a journalist and a television channel over the alleged new ‘revelations’ in connection with the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar that were purportedly aired on Monday. Tharoor took to Twitter to vent his anger. “A so-called journalist comes w/an agenda2disrupt the rest of the media in order to create attention for his channel. Not interested in truth,” Tharoor tweeted today. Accusing the TV channel of only trying to ‘attract TRPs’, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram added, “I have nothing to hide from the police and the courts.” He added, “Came out to find dozens of cameras. Tried2say a few words to them but kept being interrupted by a cretin seeking 2 make the news, not report it.”

Tharoor last night had termed reports appearing in the television channel in connection with the death of his wife as “misrepresentations and outright lies”. Tharoor in a Facebook post elaborated his stand by saying, “Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations and outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist”. The former UN diplomat said, “I am angered that someone would exploit a human tragedy for personal gain and TRPs. I challenge him to prove his false claims in a court of law”.

Republic TV channel had yesterday aired a tape allegedly containing conversation between a woman journalist and Sunanda Pushkar following another one between the scribe and Shashi Tharoor’s aide allegedly just hours before Pushkar was declared dead.

Sunanda (51) was found dead at a suite in a five-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014, a day after her alleged spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Twitter over her alleged affair with Tharoor. Several persons have been questioned in connection with Sunanda’s death. The police have also conducted polygraph test on six persons, all prime witnesses in the case, including Tharoor’s domestic help Narayan Singh, driver Bajrangi and Sanjay Dewan, a close friend of the couple. Earlier, Tarar was also questioned about her relation with the Congress leader and his wife, her fight with Sunanda over Twitter, and other issues revolving around Sunanda’s death.
