Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth have turned the notion that professional rivals cannot be friends on its head. They are Kollywood’s biggest superstars, and ever since they have expressed an interest in entering politics, they are being pitted against each other on that front too.
Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth were announced the winners of the coveted NTR National Film Award for 2014 and 2016, respectively, by the Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday. The government had not announced the awards since 2014, due to the split of Andhra Pradesh into two and the formation of Telangana.
Kamal took to Twitter to congratulate Rajinikanth and thank the state government for bestowing him with the honour. Rajinikanth thanked him and congratulated him in return.

The NTR National Film Award in an honorary award instituted in the memory of former Tollywood superstar and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao.
The awards will be presented in a ceremony held in January 2018.
